- ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA
-
- Act 3 Scene 10
-
- (Camidius marcheth with his land army one way over the stage, and
- Taurus, the lieutenant of Caesar, with his army the other way. After their
- going in is heard the noise of a sea-fight. Alarum. Enter Enobarbus)
- l1l Enobarbus Naught, naught, all naught! I can behold no longer.
- l2l ThÆ Antoniad, the Egyptian admiral,
- l3l With all their sixty, fly and turn the rudder.
- l4l To see Æt mine eyes are blasted.
- (Enter Scarus)
- Scarus Gods and goddessesù
- l5l All the whole synod of them!
- Enobarbus WhatÆs thy passion?
- l6l Scarus The greater cantle of the world is lost
- l7l With very ignorance; we have kissed away
- l8l Kingdoms and provinces.
- Enobarbus How appears the fight?
- l9l Scarus On our side like the tokened pestilence,
- l10l Where death is sure. Yon riband-red nag of Egyptù
- l11l Whom leprosy oÆertake!ùiÆ thÆ midst oÆ thÆ fightù
- l12l When vantage like a pair of twins appeared,
- l13l Both as the same, or rather ours the elderù
- l14l The breese upon her, like a cow in June,
- l15l Hoists sails and flies.
- Enobarbus That I beheld.
- l16l Mine eyes did sicken at the sight, and could not
- l17l Endure a further view.
- Scarus She once being luffed,
- l18l The noble ruin of her magic, Antony,
- l19l Claps on his sea-wing and, like a doting mallard,
- l20l Leaving the fight in height, flies after her.
- l21l I never saw an action of such shame.
- l22l Experience, manhood, honour, neÆer before
- l23l Did violate so itself.
- Enobarbus Alack, alack!
- (Enter Camidius)
- l24l Camidius Our fortune on the sea is out of breath,
- l25l And sinks most lamentably. Had our general
- l26l Been what he knew himself, it had gone well.
- l27l O, he has given example for our flight
- l28l Most grossly by his own.
- l29l Enobarbus Ay, are you thereabouts? Why then, good night indeed!
- l30l Camidius Toward Peloponnesus are they fled.
- l31l Scarus ÆTis easy to Æt, and there I will attend
- l32l What further comes.
- Camidius To Caesar will I render
- l33l My legions and my horse. Six kings already
- l34l Show me the way of yielding.
- Enobarbus IÆll yet follow
- l35l The wounded chance of Antony, though my reason
- l36l Sits in the wind against me.
- (Exeunt severally)
